A lot of people view fitness as an inconvenient necessity, something they might consider doing when things settle down. For me fitness isn't another cog in the machine, it's the engine that keeps the entire machine moving forward.
My love for fitness came from an early battle with childhood obesity and food addiction. I struggled with having a negative self image and a need for approval which lead me down the path of drug & alcohol abuse and criminal activity. Anything that promised to help me escape from my reality was welcomed with open arms. Eventually I realized I couldn't outrun myself and I would have to confront the parts of myself that I didn't like.
I started taking control of my physical wellness during one of my many periods of incarceration. I went from simply hanging from the stairs in a county jail block to being able to pull myself halfway up... and it took WEEKS! But despite the comments from other inmates I stayed persistent and a half turned into one... then three... then over a dozen with ease. I began increasing my workout intensity and learning everything I could about biomechanics, muscle hypertrophy, and cardiovascular training. Soon I was helping other inmates design calisthenic workout plans. I went from being the fat kid on the rec yard to being that guy you don't wanna mess with!
Today I am sober, happy, and healthy. For me fitness was an integral aspect of my transformation, and I owe much of my success to the men and women who helped me along the way. My greatest desire is to be able to give back what was freely given to me. Whatever your battle may be, I am convinced that taking control of your physical well-being is the first step in crafting the life of your dreams. It will be challenging , but it will also be rewarding beyond belief. Nothing is more empowering than realizing that you possess the power to create your reality. I look forward to being your guide and companion on this journey.
